Open Studios Jordaan 2012

During the weekend after Acension Day (18th, 19th & 20th May 2012), 72 artists in the picturesque centre of old Amsterdam, the Jordaan, will open their studios and work places to the public.

You are welcome to visit, free of charge and with no obligations between 12.00 and 18.00 o’clock. You will be able to meet the Amsterdam artists, including painters, photographers, ceramists, sculptors, designers and jewelry designers, and view their work in their own studios.

Open Studios Jordaan has been organized once every two years ever since 1988 and has become tremendously popular with the public.

History
The beautiful Jordaan with its centuries old canals and houses is particularly favoured by artists, eccentric small shops, cafes and restaurants, and offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy wandering around.

Central exhibition
To make things easier for visitors there is a Central Exhibition open during the Open Studios Jordaan. This exhibition contains one work by each of the participating artists. There is also a map available showing where all the artists can be found. The studios themselves can be recognized by a flag.

Website
On this website participants of Open Studios Jordaan each have their own page. Besides pictures of their work there is information about the artists, what sort of work they make and the techniques they use.

Participants
The website has a search system based not only on artist’s names but also on discipline or technique. For instance, if you are only interested in photography, it is very easy to find all the participating photographers. On a map you can see where the studio in question can be found. The same goes for the participating painters, ceramists and sculptors. They can all be found immediately.

Studios
A number of artists have place photographs of their studio on the website, so you need not wait until the holiday weekend to have a look.
